Oman TV in Muscat held a very enriching interview with Dr. Ismail Lubbad- UNFPA Arab States Population and Devolvement Advisor (a.i). In the interview, Dr. Lubbad applauded the Omani National Center of Statistics and Information (NCSI) success stories in the area of population census and data collection and analysis especially through the COVID-19 pandemic. He also addressed the the UNFPA mandate in the area of population & development and its readiness to provide further support to the governments in GCC region, when needed, to continue generating evidence-based data and reliable population censuses and adminitrstaive registers.

The UNFPA GCC and UNICEF Oman are conducting a Situation Analysis of Adolescents and Youth in Oman in collaboration with the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Youth. As part of the project, an E-discussion platform has been launched so that young people in Oman can share their experiences, knowledge, and opinions on a variety of issues, challenges, and their situation in different areas. UNFPA GCC has been promoting this platform so they can participate in the discussion.

The United Nations Population Fund, sub-regional office for the GCC countries (UNFPA GCC) and the World Health Organization (WHO) office in the Kingdom of Bahrain have agreed to launch a media and advocacy campaign to commemorate the “International Day of the Midwife”, which is celebrated annually on the 5 th of May.
The distinct advocacy campaign, which will be launched in cooperation with the Bahrain Nursing Society, will feature 5 leading midwives in the country. The campaign aims to highlight the achievements of the Bahraini midwives, whilst recognising and honouring their efforts to ensure a safe birth experience and the reduction of the maternal mortalities and morbidities. The two organisations aim to produce short videos with inspirational remarks from the selected midwives, as well as many social media postings and key messages, in order to raise public awareness about the important role of these backroom healthcare workers.

In response to the pandemic social distancing rules, and given the success of the two versions of the Gender Mainstreaming course delivered to the key decision-makers at the Ministry of Social Development and other key stakeholders in Oman, UNFPA GCC developed an e-course to ensure the sustainability of this knowledge in an innovative format.

قبل 25 سنة، اجتمع قادة 179 دولة في القاهرة بالمؤتمر الدولي للسكان والتنمية وأقروا بحق الأفراد الإنساني في اتخاذ قراراتهم الإنجابية الخاصة بشكل حر ومسؤول. أقر برنامج عمل المؤتمر أن تمكين المرأة هو شرط لتحقيق التنمية. بالرغم من التقدم في المنطقة العربية، إلا أن السعي نحو تحقيق وعود المؤتمر الدولي للسكان والتنمية لايزال تحديًا
