How did COVID-19 affect SRH&Rs in GCC: A study initiated by UNFPA GCC

calendar_today 01 August 2021

In July 2021, UNFPA, the sub-regional office for GCC countries (UNFPA GCC) embarked on a regional study on COVID-19 impact on SRH&Rs and related services, with a focus on women and adolescent girls. The aim of this study is to assess the impact of the COVID-19 on the service delivery of reproductive health facilities in GCC to identify the level of accessibility to such services through the pandemic in these targeted countries.  The study, which is under-implantation, will provide a set of recommendations for GCC governments to ensure that women and adolescent girl's reproductive rights are at the top of the national post-pandemic recovery agenda. It will also highlight the situation of the SRH&Rs and the gaps in addition to the areas of potential co-operation with UNFPA to enhance these rights and improve the provided services.

The study is conducted by a regionally renowned consultant, Dr. Belhafiane Madani, who is an Algerian expert with more than 35 years of experience in this field.  The final version of the study, which will be established on extensive literature review and focused country-based consultations, will be finalized to be shared with the regional and national stakeholders and government partners by end of September 2021.
