The popular Muscat Festival has been extended for a week until the 1st of March, but UNFPA and Y-PEER ended their participation on Thursday after a successful week of outreach.

After a fruitful week of outreach and raising awareness, UNFPA and Y-PEER Oman finished their participation in Muscat Festival on the 23rd of February 2012. The week long activities were extremely successful and reached a large base of the population both nationals and internationals that frequent the Festival during this time.

2 stories in the Oman Daily Observer featured the participation, including the opening which was attended by Ms. Shukoor Ghammary the head of the Omani Women's Association, and Ms. Nashia Naseeb the head of the Control HIV/AIDS/STI section at the Ministry of Health. Both women were awarded with a token of Thanks from the UNFPA GCC Area Office for their continuing support and collaborative efforts with the Y-PEER Oman network.

The stall aimed to highlight 2 aspects of the UNFPA mandate which is Reproductive health - through HIV awareness, and the 7 Billion Campaign, as well as raising awareness about the Y-PEER network and their work in Oman. The Festival is a useful and effective venue for outreach and awareness raising as it gets an estimated 17,000 visitors daily - provided a large scope for education.

The UNFPA GCC Area Office hopes to continue this annual activity with bigger activities in the coming years.
