A Delegation from the Ministry of Education in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia visits the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA) in Oman

A Delegation from the Ministry of Education in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia visited UNFPA sub-regional office for the GCC countries based in Muscat, Oman. The visit took place third week of February 2014 over three days aiming at introducing UNFPA’s programs targeting youths through the Youth Peer Education Network (Y-PEER) particularly in Oman. It also involved meetings with the Y-PEER Oman members to learn more about the network’s methodology and activities as well as UNFPA’s counterparts especially governmental partners who are using Y-PEER as a communication and educational tool.

During the visit, meetings were also held with the Ministry of Education in Muscat and its directorate in Buraimi governorate. More discussions took place with the Ministry of Health, the Ministry of Environment and Climate Affairs, the National Committee for Narcotics and Psychotropic Substances (NCNPS) and Oman Women Association (OWA). UNFPA’s partners emphasized the success of the Y-PEER methodology and its flexibility when it comes to selecting a particular topic for peer education. On One hand, this visit has allowed the delegation to encounter evidence-based country experiences that will inform and inspire ideas to be implemented entirely or partially back home. While on the other hand, it will help in identifying strategic opportunities to promote peer education in Saudi Arabia.

The Saudi delegation’s stay in Oman comes after a visit to Y-PEER programs run in Amman in order to know more about the youth network activities in Jordan.
