The global "10 Days of Activism" campaign has hit Oman, under the slogan "Nothing for us, without us", and aims at raising awareness and mobilizing resources for greater youth participation. It is a callout out to youth and decision makers alike to work together in creating a more promising future.
The 10 days of activism is an annual campaign which takes place from the 1st to the 10th of September, and like the name suggests, involves 10 days of continuous activities to involve youth and raise awareness about various issues. It is launch by the global Youth Peer Education Network (Y-PEER), supported by the UNFPA. This year the theme is on youth participation and its vital role in the world today. Oman joins 41 other countries in celebrating and running this campaign with 10 days of activities in Muscat and Buraimi.
The activities begins on Saturday the 1st of September with a 2 day corner at the Muscat Grand Mall, where Y-PEER Oman members will run awareness activities, games and competitions, focusing on raising awareness of HIV. The campaign continues with 4 days of activities in the western city of Buraimi, where members will have a public stall to raise awareness on the Y-PEER network itself, to encourage youth involvement in Buraimi, as well as a workshop to build capacities, increase interest and knowledge of youth and expand the Y-PEER network in that region. Finally, for the last days of the campaign, it returns to Muscat in collaboration with other youth, to train youth in and exchange information in their respective expertise with a focus on the importance of civic participation. The campaign culminates with an online discussion forum, to raise awareness on the importance of the world around us, and how youth are integral to ensuring we are living in a cleaner world.
