The United Nations Population Fund, sub-regional office for the GCC countries (UNFPA GCC) and the World Health Organization (WHO) office in the Kingdom of Bahrain have agreed to launch a media and advocacy campaign to commemorate the “International Day of the Midwife”, which is celebrated annually on the 5 th of May.
The distinct advocacy campaign, which will be launched in cooperation with the Bahrain Nursing Society, will feature 5 leading midwives in the country. The campaign aims to highlight the achievements of the Bahraini midwives, whilst recognising and honouring their efforts to ensure a safe birth experience and the reduction of the maternal mortalities and morbidities. The two organisations aim to produce short videos with inspirational remarks from the selected midwives, as well as many social media postings and key messages, in order to raise public awareness about the important role of these backroom healthcare workers.
